Project Overview

Capital Arts Cambodia successfully delivered a comprehensive Braille airport signage system for Techo International Airport,one of Cambodia’s most advanced aviation infrastructure projects.

This project required strict adherence to international accessibility standards to ensure the airport environment is inclusive, safe, and easy to navigate for passengers with visual impairments.

Client Objectives

The airport development team required:

  • High-precision Braille directional and informational signage

  • Globally standardized placement and tactile readability

  • Durable materials suitable for high-traffic airport environments

  • Full compliance with international accessibility and ADA Braille standards

  • A signage system aligned with the airport’s architectural identity

The Braille Signage Challenge in Cambodia

  • This project presented a unique challenge as large-scale Braille signage production is still rare in Cambodia. Key challenges included:

    • Limited local experience with Braille manufacturing standards

    • Ensuring accurate Braille translation, dot spacing, and tactile height

    • Selecting appropriate tactile materials and embossing techniques

    • Meeting strict airport safety, durability, and accessibility regulations

    • Coordinating installation with multiple contractors during construction

Our Approach to Braille Accessibility Signage

1. Collaboration with Braille Education Experts

Capital Arts partnered with a specialized school for visually impaired learners in Cambodia to validate:

  • Braille translations

  • Dot height and spacing

  • Character accuracy based on recognized international standards

2. Material Selection & Prototype Development

Custom prototypes were developed using:

  • High-grade acrylic and stainless steel

  • Precision tactile embossing and engraving

  • Durable polyurethane finishes for long-term performance

All samples were tested, refined, and approved prior to full-scale production.

3. Engineering, Fabrication & Quality Control

Our engineering team produced detailed technical drawings to ensure:

  • Accurate tactile height and spacing

  • Consistent character layout

  • Ease of recognition for visually impaired users

All Braille signs were fabricated in-house using advanced CNC and laser engraving systems, ensuring precision and consistency.

4. Installation & Accessibility Compliance

Installation followed strict international guidelines for:

  • Mounting height

  • Placement accuracy

  • Accessibility reach standards

Post-installation, a full quality assurance inspection was conducted in coordination with the airport team.

The completed Braille signage system provides:

  • Clear and accessible navigation for visually impaired passengers

  • International-standard tactile quality

  • Durable signs designed for long-term airport use

  • Seamless integration with the overall airport branding and architecture
